Smokeless tobacco products might be sold again legally on the territory of the Eurasian Customs Union, despite the fact that Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan earlier agreed to ban their sale.
The ECU was discussing a document outlining technical regulations on the sale of tobacco products, and as a result, two points were eliminated from the document, including the ban on the sale of smokeless tobacco products. The document will next be reviewed by a higher-level commission.
Shifting consumers to smokeless tobacco products is a tobacco industry strategy as smoking is banned in public places. This product, however, causes cancers of the throat, mouth, tongue, esophagus, and stomach, as well as other illnesses.
